Domestic Animal Services

"Behavioural husbandry is a continuously evolving and fascinating field of study that is changing the way we view animal care and should be at the forefront of animal welfare planning. Wild Enrichment helps to take a new or existing behavioural husbandry program and elevate it to the next level."

What We Do

Here at Wild Enrichment, our goal is simple: To provide resources and information that will benefit animal care staff in providing enrichment for the animals under their care. Animal Care professionals around the world are all faced with common problems when it comes to behavioural husbandry: Time restraints in their day to day routines preventing them from reaching the level of enrichment they wish to achieve, Not having the technical building know-how needed in order to make their enrichment dreams a reality, and a shortage of resources providing new ideas for enrichment. We want to solve these problems.

Behavioural Husbandry Consulting

Behavioural Husbandry is a term that is only recently being talked about in many domestic animal settings but the more we learn about this practice, it is clear that behavioural husbandry is just as important as many of the more common husbandry practices such as proper cleaning and access to food and water. Having a great behavioural husbandry program has many important benefits including:

  • Increased animal welfare
  • Potential to stop or reduce stable vices and other negative behaviours
  • Increase in the human-animal relationship
  • Happier employees
  • Better social media content
  • Happier clients

Here at Wild Enrichment, we provide comprehensive behavioural husbandry consulting to help you start a program that will give you all of these benefits and more! Whether you are looking to start a new program from scratch or already have a behavioural husbandry program, Wild Enrichment will support you and your facility and provide animal welfare solutions that fit your unique situation.

Why Choose Wild Enrichment?

We think outside the box

We use a combination of scientific and out-of-the-box thinking to target natural behaviours as well as help bring the ideas of animal care staff to life.

We work with your team

We work with team members from all levels, including animal care staff and management in order to effectively design a plan to suit the needs of the animals under your care as well as the staff that are going to be implementing it.

We are a one stop shop

Not only does Wild Enrichment redesign your behavioural husbandry program, we can also make exhibit design recommendations and even build custom enrichment items to suit your specific needs.

We have the experience

We have over a decade of experience working with and enriching the lives of a variety of species, exotic and domestic. From Horses and Cattle, to more exotic farm animals like Bison and Camels.

How we improve animal welfare

Assessment

Assess the current level of enrichment being delivered by animal care staff and the animals living space. Individual strengths and weaknesses in the current plan will be identified in order to identify areas to focus on.

Goal Setting

Based on the current enrichment program, we work closely with staff to set specific and measurable goals that can be put in place with a new enrichment program. We focus on natural behaviours as well as species-specific goals.

Planning

Using the information gathered from the assessment and goal-setting phases, we put together a new behavioural husbandry program for specific animals or the institution as a whole.

Implementation

We work with animal care staff to effectively implement all aspects of the new plan. From building to daily tracking of enrichment items. We stick around until your goals are not only met, but effectively implemented for future success.

FAQ

Cost depends on your specific situation and the factors such as species, institution size and audience size. Travel is also an expense when a facility is located more than 2 hours outside of the GTA. Contact us and we will gladly discuss pricing with you!

Presentations for facilities and conferences can either be virtual or in person. Consulting is generally more effective in person but can be done virtually if price and distance become obstacles.

We are located in Uxbridge, Ontario.
